Composition
Per ml. suspension:
Amoxycillin (as trihydrate) 100 mg.
Description
Amoxycillin is a broad spectrum, semi-synthetic penicillin active against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The range of effect includes: streptococci, not penicillinase producing staphylococci, Bacillus anthracis, Corynebacteria spp., Clostridia spp., Brucella spp., Haemophilus spp., Pasteurella spp., Salmonella spp., Moraxella spp., E. coli, Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae, Fusiformis, Bordetella spp., Diplococci, Micrococci and Sphaerophorus necrophorus. The bactericidal activity is governed by an inhibition of the formation of the cell. Amoxycillin has many advantages, it is non-toxic, well resorbed, stable in acidic conditions and bactericidal. The drug is destroyed by e.g. penicillinase-producing staphylococci and some Gram-negative strains.
Indications
Infections of the alimentary tract, respiratory tract, urogenital tract, coli-mastitis and secondary bacterial infections during the course of a viral disease concerning horses, cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, dogs and cats.
Contra-indications
New-borns, small herbivores (such as guinea pigs, rabbits), hypersensitivity to penicillin's, renal dysfunction's, infections caused by penicillinase-producing bacteria.
Side-effects
Hypersensitivity reactions may occur, e.g. anaphylactic shock.
Incompatibility with other drugs or substances
Amoxycillin is incompatible with fast-acting bacteriostatic antimicrobial drugs (e.g. Tetracyclines, Chloramphenicol, and Sulphonamides).
Dosage and administration
For intramuscular administration. Shake well before use.
The general dose is : 1 ml. per 15 kg. bodyweight. This dosage may be repeated after 48 hours if necessary.
If dose volume exceed 20 ml., divide and inject in two sites.
Withdrawal period
Meat : 14 days
Milk : 3 days
Storage
Store in a dry, dark place between 15°C and 25°C.
Packing
100 ml. multidose vial (80 vials per box).
